An FD30 fire doorset is designed and tested to resist fire for a minimum of 30 minutes, evidenced by testing to BS 476-22 or BS EN 1634-1 (with the European route classified under BS EN 13501-2, where FD30 broadly corresponds to an E30 integrity classification). FD30 is the rating most commonly specified in UK buildings: flat entrance doors, HMO bedroom and escape-route doors, corridor doors and the majority of internal fire doors in offices, schools and residential blocks are typically FD30 or FD30s.
Every FD30 doorset we supply will be a complete factory-assembled unit — leaf, frame, seals, glazing and ironmongery manufactured and machined together under a third-party certification scheme — rather than a door leaf hung on site in a separately sourced frame. A doorset is tested and certified as a single unit, which removes the compatibility risk that comes with assembling components from different sources, and gives the responsible person a single traceable certificate for the whole opening.
Where cold smoke control is required — flat entrance doors and many corridor positions are typical examples — we will supply the FD30s variant, which adds cold smoke seals to the intumescent fire seals. Each doorset will be delivered with its certification evidence and installation instructions so it can be fitted in accordance with BS 8214 and the certificated design, and recorded in your fire door register.

Frequently asked questions
What does FD30 mean?
FD30 means the doorset has demonstrated at least 30 minutes of fire resistance when tested to BS 476-22 or BS EN 1634-1. On the European classification route (BS EN 13501-2), FD30 broadly corresponds to E30, which is an integrity-only classification. The 's' suffix in FD30s indicates cold smoke control, which requires smoke seals in addition to intumescent fire seals.
Is FD30 enough for a flat entrance door?
Current English guidance treats FD30s — 30 minutes' fire resistance plus cold smoke control — with a self-closing device as the typical minimum for flat entrance doors. The Fire Safety Act 2021 confirmed that flat entrance doors in multi-occupied residential buildings fall within the responsible person's fire risk assessment, so the specification for a particular building should always follow that assessment.
Will your FD30 doorsets carry third-party certification?
Yes. Every doorset we supply will carry third-party certification, with the scheme and scope published at launch. Third-party certification adds ongoing factory production control audits and traceable labelling on top of the original test evidence, which is why it is widely specified in social housing and commercial tenders even though it is not itself a legal mandate.
